Lawrence Rines Munro, Daniel Durrett and Tyson Ali Clark as Snow King in The Nutcracker
Hear from Boston Ballet Soloist Lawrence Rines Munro and Second Soloists Daniel Durrett and Tyson Ali Clark on what it means to them to perform the role of Snow King in Mikko Nissinen’s The Nutcracker.
“Debuting this role after being in this production for 14 years has been one of the many highlights of my career. I never really saw myself as a courtly cavalier type dancer. After putting the costume on and getting on that sleigh to go out there, it all just felt right. It warms my heart to see three beautiful brown men who might not have seen themselves in this role put their stamp on it.” – Soloist Lawrence Rines Munro
“There’s something so special about sharing a role with two other Black male dancers. It’s rare that you’ll see a Black Snow King..so to have three cast throughout The Nutcracker run is amazing. To be honest, it’s a great opportunity for the audience to see that Black dancers aren’t just the supporting soloist dancer in a classical ballet…we indeed can also dance the lead roles…and dance them well!” – Second Soloist Daniel Durrett
“Snow pas is such a magical pas, you sort of get lost in it. Within each moment we’re casting an angelic energy – truly a special pas.” – Second Soloist Tyson Ali Clark
