Preparatory 6
Age 6* | Co-ed | Ongoing enrollment (September-June)
Tuition pro-rated monthly | Located at Boston, Brighton, Brookline, and Newton Studios
One class per week, 45 minutes
In Preparatory 6, students continue to expand upon the French terminology introduced in Preparatory 5 through center work and the learning and utilization of the twelve basic ballet words and positioning: port-de-bras, demi-pointe, en dehors, en dedans, relevé, elevé, battement tendu, battement dégagé, grand battement, coupé, passé, plié.
Students are asked to execute these ballet steps in a more sophisticated manner. With that, students consider what body parts initiate movement and why they must move in a specific direction in ballet. Faculty also introduce the idea of self-expression and creativity through improvisation.
