Community Building and Career Preparation

School faculty members are experienced arts professionals, carefully selected for their expertise in the dance and education fields, as well as their ability to motivate and nurture students. The collective wisdom and experience of the entire staff encourages the exploration of innovative and effective teaching methods that help students learn in a professionally supportive environment. Throughout the school year our faculty work diligently to foster trust in the studios and positive relationships with students and parents. Opportunities for connection with faculty include Community Time, parent/faculty conferences, evaluations, career preparation, year-end performances, and other events.

  • Community Time (Intermediate/Advanced Levels): The goal of Community Time is to continue to foster proper channels of communication between faculty and students. These 15-minute in-studio check-ins will focus on questions about curriculum during class, discussing a situation that has occurred with other students, or just having time to connect with their teachers on a personal level. This time is intended to empower students to come to their teachers, bond, and build a positive student experience.
  • Mid-Year Conferences (Intermediate/Advanced Levels): In addition to the ongoing feedback students receive in the studios, there are additional formal opportunities to discuss progress. Students have an individual meeting with faculty to discuss their advancement through the Classical Ballet Program.
  • Mid-Year Progress Report and Year-End Evaluation (Classical Ballet Program): Students receive personalized faculty evaluations that address areas to reflect and improve upon within our curriculum.
  • Participation in Year End Demonstrations (All Levels): The Children’s Program, Classical Ballet Program, and Adaptive Dance Program students are invited to participate in year-end culminating demonstrations. These special opportunities provide an opportunity for our students to demonstrate their progress and include Step by Step, an in-class demonstration for the Children’s Program, and Spring Showcase, an off-site showing for the Classical Ballet Program. Participation is optional.
  • BBS Boys Event (All Levels): Families join Luciano Aimar, Head of BBS Children’s Curriculum and Joan Boada, Associate Director of BBII for a demonstration and discussion, highlighting boys programming and the importance of training. This presentation is designed as an open platform for students and families to understand the male focused curriculum and ask our older students and dancers questions about their journey in ballet.
Career Preparation (Advanced Levels): Graduating students receive mentoring in their final year at BBS with college applications and references, resume preparation, audition photos, and audition videos.
