Biography
Yue Shi began his early ballet training at the Liaoning Ballet School. Throughout his training, he has participated in many international ballet competitions and garnered several awards. Shi was invited to join the Royal Winnipeg Ballet (RWB) School Aspirant Program when he competed at the Jackson International Ballet Competition, where RWB Artistic Director André Lewis was a member of the Jury. Shi joined the RWB Company as an Apprentice in 2015 and promoted to principal dancer in 2021.
His repertoire includes Sir Frederick Ashton’s Cinderella (The Prince), Val Caniparoli’s A Cinderella Story, Florence Clerc’s Kingdom of the Shades, Jorma Elo’s Bach Cello Suites and Carmen (Don José), Greg Horsman’s La Bayadère, James Kudelka’s Vespers, Jorden Morris’ Peter Pan and Moulin Rouge, Mikko Nissinen’s The Nutcracker (Nutcracker Prince, Snow King) and Raymonda (Jean de Brienne), Ken Ossola’s The Space Between, Marius Petipa’s The Sleeping Beauty, Twyla Tharp’s The Princess & The Goblin, Rudi van Dantzig’s Romeo & Juliet, Toer van Schayk’s Seventh Symphony, Mauricio Wainrot’s Carmina Burana, Septime Webre’s The Wizard of Oz, Peter Wright’s Giselle, Galina Yordanova and Nina Menon’s The Nutcracker, Galina Yordanova’s Swan Lake, and Lila York’s The Handmaid’s Tale. In 2017, he guest performed the role of Prince in The Sleeping Beauty with Sofia National Opera Ballet.
Shi joined Boston Ballet in 2023 as a principal dancer.
