Biography
Kyra Muttilainen began her ballet training at Vermont Ballet Theater in Essex, VT, under the direction of Alex Nagiba. She went on to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Ballet Performance at the Indiana University Jacob’s School of Music, where she trained with faculty members Sarah Wroth, Kyra Nichols, Carla Korbes, Michael Vernon, Sasha Janes, and Christian Claessens. She attended Jacob’s Pillow Summer Program in 2018 where she trained under Anna-Marie Holmes and performed in Annabelle Lopez-Ochoa’s world premiere piece. She attended the Chautauqua Institution as an apprentice working with Patricia McBride and Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux and performed with Charlotte Ballet and Nashville Ballet. She most recently took part in Orsolina28’s summer program, learning works of Marco Goecke and Crystal Pite.
Muttilainen’s repertoire includes George Balanchine’s Walpurgisnacht, Jerome Robbins’ The Concert (or, The Perils of Everybody), Sasha Janes’ world premiere of Wildflower, and Michael Vernon’s The Nutcracker (Sugarplum and Snow Queen).
Her Boston Ballet repertoire includes Sir Frederick Ashton’s Cinderella, Florence Clerc’s Kingdom of the Shades, Jorma Elo’s Carmen, William Forsythe’s Artifact Suite and Défilé, Akram Khan’s Vertical Road (Reimagined) 2023, Nanine Linning’s La Mer, Mikko Nissinen’s Raymonda, Rudolf Nureyev’s Don Quixote, Ken Ossola’s The Space Between, Justin Peck’s Everywhere We Go, Marius Petipa’s The Sleeping Beauty (Woodland Glade Fairy), and Helen Pickett’s TO BE ONE.
Her Boston Ballet II repertoire includes George Balanchine’s Allegro Brillante (principal role) and Chaconne, Lia Cirio’s Lenore (principal role), and Mikko Nissinen’s The Nutcracker and Swan Lake.
Muttilainen joined Boston Ballet School’s Post Graduate program in the fall of 2020 and Boston Ballet II in 2021. She joined Boston Ballet as an artist of the Company in 2022.
