Janis Walker

Biography

Janis Walker graduated from the Joan Phelps Palladino School of Dance at Dean College in December 2023. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Dance Pedagogy with a minor in psychology and an honors collegiate induction into the National Honor Society for Dance Arts. There she studied various dance techniques from expert faculty including Jill Silverman, Roshni Pecora, Sheramy Teegan-Turcotte, Kristina Berger, and Lindsey Klein. She took various pedagogy courses from Jill Silverman, Luciano Aimar, and Stephen Tracey-Ursprung. She also had the opportunity to study intensively for 2 weeks in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Walker spent her senior semester researching the impact and use of storytelling within dance classes as an educational tool for young children. Before college, Walker trained in ballet, pointe, jazz, modern, contemporary, and dance history at Alton Dance Academy in Alton, NH under the direction of Ashley Dowling.

Walker earned a teaching internship opportunity with Boston Ballet School in 2022. During this time, she was introduced to the community of BBS and accepted a job as a Studio Administrator which she has held since.

Walker currently teaches the Preparatory Training levels. Her goal as a dance educator is to foster a positive learning environment using her passion for dance to instill a lifelong love and appreciation for dance within her students.
