Rudolf Nureyev’s
DON QUIXOTE
October 19-29, 2006

The delightful comic energy of Nureyev’s classical showstopper, Don Quixote, kicks off the 2006-07 season. With lavishly restored sets and costumes, this romping production is a showcase for bravura dancing. Based on Cervantes’ epic Spanish novel, the ballet focuses on the charming subplot of two young lovers. Much lively dancing ensues as all manner of colorful characters get into the act.

George Balanchine’s
A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM

February 8-18, 2007

This is a magical ballet for lovers and for anyone who loves to laugh. George Balanchine’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream is an enchanting ode to the supernatural power of love. Based on Shakespeare’s masterpiece, Midsummer conjures a convincing fantasy with lush scenery, marvelously endearing characters—including children as bugs and fairies—and Mendelssohn’s mesmerizing score. This Boston premiere is a perfect treat for your Valentine.

NEW VISIONS:
WORLD PREMIERE by Jorma Elo
POLYPHONIA by Christopher Wheeldon
SONATA
FOR TWO PIANOS AND PERCUSSION by Val Caniparoli
March 1-4, 2007

Get set for an evening of ballet that will have you on the edge of your seat. Last March, audiences were thrilled by the return of Plan to B, a rousing tour de force by Resident Choreographer Jorma Elo. On the heels of his world premiere Carmen, Elo creates another much-anticipated new work for Boston Ballet. Christopher Wheeldon's award-winning Polyphonia is a daring, poetic work of true originality, an endlessly evolving tableau of exquisite bodies. Val Caniparoli’s exhilarating Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion, created for Boston Ballet in 2004, is a technically challenging ballet driven by Béla Bartók's powerful score, sure to bring out the best of the Company’s spectacular artistry.

BALANCHINE PROGRAM
BALLO DELLA REGINA, LA VALSE and
the FOUR TEMPERAMENTS
May 3-6, 2007

George Balanchine believed that the central feature of ballet should be movement itself—as music to the symphony. Boston Ballet's Balanchine program begins with the lively Ballo della Regina, set to stirring passages from Verdi's opera, Don Carlos. Performed for the first time by Boston Ballet, La Valse
provides a thrillingly ominous counterpoint, a dark yet beautiful ballet perfectly matched to a gorgeous score by Maurice Ravel. The Four Temperaments, which completes the program, is a true contemporary masterpiece and one of the finest examples of Balanchine's ingenious artistic innovations. This will be an unforgettable evening!

GISELLE
May 10-20, 2007
staging by Maina Gielgud

Since its premiere in Paris more than 150 years ago, Giselle has gripped countless audiences the world over. And though the ballet has seen many variations, Maina Gielgud’s version harkens back to the fervent style and drama of the 19th century original. Boston Ballet closes its 2006-2007 season with Giselle, a beloved classic, pure and simple. The Company’s 2002 performance of Gielgud’s Giselle was hailed as a landmark achievement—tickets were hard to come by. Boston Ballet dancers will again exhibit their matchless grace, reprising this moving story of ill-fated love. Don’t miss this splendid classical ballet in all its glory.
