        Placement Classes & Auditions

Boston Ballet School requires all new students ages 9-19 to attend a placement class so Artistic Staff may determine the level of study most appropriate to their abilities. A series of group placement classes is held throughout the summer; prospective students do not need to audition at the location which they prefer to enroll in. Please note that most, but not all programs and levels are available at every studio location.

        2013-2014 Group Placement Classes
A group placement class for the 2013-2014 school year will take place at the Newton Studio on Saturday, June 15, 2013 from 3-5pm. Pre-registration is requested (see link below). There is a $30 placement fee that may be made by check or money order payable to Boston Ballet School. Please note that you are not required to enroll in classes at the same studio where you attend a placement class - your placement applies to any Boston Ballet School location. Students attending a summer program at Boston Ballet School will be assessed for a level in the upcoming school year and are not be required to attend a separate placement class.

Click here to download the pre-registration form for the June 15 placement class for the Classical Ballet Program. Please mail completed pre-registration forms with $30 placement fee to the following address:

        Newtonville, MA 02460

        Pre-Professional Audition
Those interested in the Pre-Professional Program must attend a group audition traditionally held in the month of May. New students are encouraged to pre-register. Results will be mailed to students following the audition. Please note, acceptance is limited. Students should wear regular ballet attire (no skirts or leg warmers) and pull hair back neatly and securely off the neck. Female students should bring pointe shoes.

        Placement Class/Audition FAQs:
What should I wear to the placement class/audition?
Prospective students should arrive to the placement class wearing regular ballet attire (no skirts or leg warmers allowed) with hair pulled  back neatly and securely off of the neck. Students with pointe experience should bring their pointe shoes.

How long will the placement class/audition last?
Depending on the ages and amount of applicants, students may be divided into two audition groups. Placement classes generally take one hour, although prospective students may finish prior to the scheduled end time. Occasionally, younger students between the ages of 9-11 may be evaluated within 15-25 minutes.

How will I know my child's results?
Following the placement class, you will be notified in the mail of your child's placement class results.

        Individual Placement Class
If you are unable to attend one of the scheduled Group Placement Classes, please call 617.456.6333 to schedule an individual placement class. During an Individual Placement Class, the interested student is evaluated within a class level of other students with similar dance experience. Please note that Individual Placement Classes cannot be scheduled during the summer months.

If you have any questions regarding the placement process, please contact Boston Ballet School at 617.456.6333 or school@bostonballet.org
