Boston Ballet School requires that all new students ages 9-19 attend a placement class so that our Artistic Staff may determine the level of study most appropriate to their abilities. A series of group placement classes is held throughout the summer; prospective students do not need to audition at the location which they prefer to enroll in. Please note that most, but not all programs and levels are available at every studio location.
Pre-Professional Audition
Those interested in the Pre-Professional Program should attend the placement class on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at the Boston Studio from 5-6:30pm. Interested families are encouraged to arrive at 4pm to register and for a meeting discussing the Pre-Professional curriculum and program expectations. Results will be mailed to the students following the audition. Please note, acceptance is limited. Email school@bostonballet.org to pre-register for the May 19 audition.
2012-2013 Group Placement Classes
Group placements classes for the 2012-2013 school year will take place in spring and summer 2012. Pre-registration is requested for each placement class. Email school@bostonballet.org to pre-register. The fee for the placement assessment is $30.00.
Placement Class/Audition FAQs:
What should I wear to the placement class/audition?
Prospective students should arrive to the placement class wearing regular ballet attire (no skirts or leg warmers allowed) with hair pulled back neatly and securely off of the neck. Students with pointe experience should bring their pointe shoes.
How long will the placement class/audition last?
Depending on the ages and amount of applicants, students may be divided into two audition groups. Placement classes generally take one hour, although prospective students may finish prior to the scheduled end time. Occasionally, younger students between the ages of 9-11 may be evaluated within 15-25 minutes.
How will I know my child's results?
Following the placement class, you will be notified in the mail of your child's placement class results.
Individual Placement Class
If you are unable to attend one of the scheduled Group Placement Classes, please call 617.456.6333 to schedule an individual placement class or contact a Studio Administrator. During an Individual Placement Class, the interested student is evaluated within a class level of other students with similiar dance experience. Please note that Individual Placement Classes can not be scheduled during the summer months.
If you have any questions regarding the placement process, please contact Boston Ballet School at 617.456.6333 or school@bostonballet.org
