Student Life in Boston

Dance Hard. Make Friends. See BOSTON!

Residential Life
The student to residence staff to student ratio is approximately 12:1. Directed by the residence staff, our residential program is designed to offer the best balance of structure and fun required with an adolescent population (see Life in Boston below).

Resident Advisors are available to talk with students and offer friendly support to a student adjusting to life away from home. A consulting psychologist is available for initial staff, student and parent consult as part of Boston Ballet's Wellness Program.

Lastly, but most importantly, the Resident Advisors' first interest is to look after the safety and well-being of all of the summer dance students. The Residential Life office is staffed 19 hours a day, and three rotating staff members are on-call at all times 24-hours a day. Students carry a Boston Ballet student ID with all pertinent phone numbers with them at all times.

Life in Boston
Situated on a gorgeous harbor that opens to the
Atlantic Ocean, Boston and its surrounding communities combine the appeal of a summer resort town with the cultural resources of a world-class city. Boston Ballet's Summer Program students can explore Boston's wide array of entertainment and recreational opportunities on organized excursions to places like Boston's Theatre District for live productions, Boston Harbor for a cruise, Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival in the Berkshire Mountains , and more (click here for more info about Weekend Activities). Students may also join their Resident Advisors to explore the city on smaller supervised excursions, such as walking the Freedom Trail, attending free performances on the Esplanade, visiting the Museum of Fine Arts, or shopping at Quincy Market.

Relaxing and casual evening activities are offered to help students wind down from a long day of dancing and to cultivate friendships for weekday and some weekend evenings. Weekends are highlighted by fun, creative nightlife, such as dances, talent shows and theme nights that take place in campus locations to allow students to express themselves and celebrate great times with new friends. Other activities are organized by the staff spontaneously, including free concerts on the Esplanade or Boston Harbor Pier, free big screen outdoor movie nights, and Shakespeare in the Park on the Boston Commons.
