News from Norwell
The South Shore Studio of Boston Ballet School will be offering
free trial classes in the Children’s Program from November 26th through December 9th.
Designed for students ages three through seven, the Children’s Program at Boston Ballet
School introduces our youngest dancers to music, rhythm, creativity and the joy of
movement. With small student-teacher ratios, esteemed faculty, and a welcoming community,
Boston Ballet School’s South Shore location is a true gem. Says one South Shore mother,“When we moved to the area, I knew it just had to be Boston Ballet, and as we live in
Kingston, we were lucky enough to find that quality in the South Shore Studio!”

Not only do all students have fun, but they are also learning a valuable skill;
some students may even dance professionally or teach ballet themselves one day.
Norwell has much to be proud of. In the last year, Boston Ballet School’s South Shore
students have been featured in Disney’s The Game Plan, starred as “Clara” in Boston Ballet’s
The Nutcracker, “Fiona” in Boston Ballet’s La Sylphide, and even models in an American Girl
Fashion Show.
Students are only as good as their teachers, and the Norwell School has some of the best.
Together, the South Shore faculty’s wealth of experience amounts to over 150 years of
teaching and professional dancing opportunities in over 8 major ballet companies!
Christine Busch, Principal of the Norwell studio, danced with American Ballet Theatre
and has been a dance educator for over thirty years and provider of strong leadership
to all the students, parents and faculty. Laura Young, former Principal Dancer of Boston
Ballet, teacher for 25 years and a native of Cohasset, adeptly guides her young students
to excellence.
Patricia Loring, well-known South Shore children’s dance educator, teaches many of the
children’s classes in Norwell. With a degree in childhood development and over 14 years of
teaching at Boston Ballet School, Ms. Loring brings a unique wealth of knowledge to her classes. Along with Steven Mitchell, former Boston Ballet Principal Pianist, she has recently produced a CD called “On Your Mark, Get Set… Dance” which she uses in her Rhythm and Movement classes for 3 year old students.
Other Children’s Program instructors in Norwell include Rebecca Waskiel, alumna of the
dance program at the University of Hartford’s Hartt School of Music. Laura Keating, a
beloved 1st grade teacher at the Osgood School in Cohassett, was recently awarded the
honor of “Plymouth County Teacher of the Year” and her teaching talents translate to her
Primary (7year old) ballet students. Other faculty members include Marthavan McKeon from
Atlanta Ballet, Leslie Woodies from Boston Ballet, Donna Silva from Joffrey Ballet, and
David Drummond from Boston Ballet.
Many current South Shore parents refer to Boston Ballet School’s Norwell School as a gem.“Tucked behind a Volvo dealership right off of Hingham Street (Exit 14, Rt. 3), many drive
by without knowing that one of the most prestigious ballet schools in the world is right at
their fingertips,” says one Children’s Program parent. The South Shore Studio offers live
piano accompaniment in all classes starting with Creative Dance, three state-of-the art
studios, and excellent instruction in a warm and nurturing atmosphere. Children’s Program
students often experience increased confidence and focus at school, as well as developing
athleticism, balance, strength, and grace. One young male dancer recently commented:“After taking ballet for a year, I can now jump higher in basketball than my friends.”
Students can try a class for free November 26th through December 9th! Programs are offered
for ages 3-adult and no experience is necessary.
For a day of Holiday family fun, stop by Boston Ballet School’s South Shore
Winter Festival on Saturday, December 15th, between 11am-1:00pm. Watch a Children’s Program
class, drink some hot chocolate, meet Clara from The Nutcracker,
watch an in-studio ballet performance and make your own headpiece… all for free! Call 617-456-6273 or 781-871-7468 for
