BOSTON BALLET TO PERFORM AT KENNEDY CENTER’S BALLET ACROSS AMERICA
(BOSTON, MA) – Boston Ballet will participate in the Kennedy Center’s 2007-2008 Ballet Across America Festival, a showcase for important companies and choreographers from around the United States. The Festival, which will take place June 10-15, 2008, will present a total of nine companies, including the Joffrey Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet (Seattle), Pennsylvania Ballet, Houston Ballet, Ballet West (Salt Lake City), Kansas City Ballet, The Washington Ballet, and Oregon Ballet Theater.
The Festival will offer three triple bills, and each program will feature three companies representing different regions of the country. Boston Ballet will perform a piece by Resident Choreographer Jorma Elo, whose recent world premiere, Brake the Eyes, received enormous critical acclaim. The Company will share the bill with the Joffrey Ballet, performing Antony Tudor’s Lilac Garden, and Oregon Ballet Theatre, dancing a work by Christopher Wheeldon. Other choreographers to be represented at the Festival are George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, Stanton Welch, Nacho Duato, Todd Bolender, and Twyla Tharp.
“It is always a fantastic opportunity to perform in major venues, especially one with such a distinguished history and roster of performers as the Kennedy Center,” said Boston Ballet Artistic Director Mikko Nissinen. “It’s very exciting for companies to come together for an event like this; it’s important for dancers to see what their colleagues are doing. I am very pleased to present our work and our dancers to new audiences, and I hope we will leave a lasting impression of this fast-growing, innovative, and talented company. Touring on a regular basis is an important part of our mission. Boston Ballet’s upcoming tour to Spain this summer is our first big step in becoming a presence on the national and international dance scenes. I hope that we have more opportunities in the future to present a range of our work at Kennedy Center.”
