JOB TITLE:  Outreach Manager, North Shore Studio

Boston Ballet Center for Dance Education (CDE) is opening a new North Shore branch which will be located within a multi-purpose fitness facility being built by the YMCA on Leggs Hill Road in Marblehead.  The Ballet will have 4 state-of-the art studios, administrative offices, and parent lounge areas dedicated to its use.  Behind the CDE’s success as the largest ballet school in North America is our commitment to providing the highest quality dance training to students of all ages and ability.  Over 10,000 people each year participate in the CDE’s school and community outreach programs. 

Reporting to the Managing Director, the North Shore Outreach Manager will be responsible for establishing key North Shore community partnerships, implementing Boston Ballet’s current outreach programs on the North Shore, and strategic planning and development support of expanded outreach activities in future years.  The Outreach Manager will be expected to be well versed in the socio-economic dynamics of the North Shore community and its cultural landscape, and represent the community’s arts education needs to Boston Ballet with an emphasis on creating interest, accessibility and opportunity for diverse populations and underserved groups.  The Outreach Manager will oversee the outreach budget, hire and supervise outreach staff, and in conjunction with the Studio Manager and Marketing Department will develop overall marketing strategy to support Boston Ballet’s North Shore school, outreach, and development activities.

Prior to building completion scheduled for Oct. 2008, the Outreach Manager will work out of the Boston Studio training with the Boston outreach team and spending 30%-50% of time in the North Shore community.  Once building is complete, Outreach Manager office will be located within the new Leggs Hill Road YMCA in Marblehead.  Outreach Manager will be expected to attend meetings in Boston approx. 2 – 4x per month.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Partnerships:  Establish key relationships on behalf of Boston Ballet that will support fulfillment of its mission, build enrollment and interest in its school and outreach programming, and attract potential donors and sponsors.  

2. Initial Programming:   Schedule and coordinate outreach workshops in the Salem and Marblehead public schools based on established Citydance Model and in accordance with start up plans.

3. Staffing: Hire, train, and supervise public school workshop teams.

4. Communications: Work with North Shore Studio Manager, Boston Ballet marketing and development staff to create comprehensive marketing/pr strategy for opening of studio, related events, and in support of on-going awareness building of Boston Ballet’s North Shore activities.

5. Administration:  Oversee N. Shore outreach budget, tracking, reporting.  Prepare contracts for outreach workshop staff.  Manage petty cash needs and AP associated with outreach.

6. Strategic Planning: Working with Managing Director and YMCA, perform on-going analysis of community dance education needs and build strategic plan in conjunction with development department for expansion of N. Shore outreach programs.

7. Events: Plan and coordinate development, community lecture/demonstrations, community performances, and pr events associated with N. Shore programs.

8. Educational Materials: Develop educational materials that will attract and inform new audiences and potential students, and create added value for public school workshops and community appearances.

9. Public Speaking and Community Involvement:  Represent Boston Ballet at public venues and events.  Join key community arts and education related associations and organizations. 

10. Other Duties:  As assigned.  

REQUIREMENTS:
BA or BS with minimum five years professional experience. Background in education, arts education, community outreach, dance, and/or performing arts preferred.

Knowledge of North Shore community (particularly Marblehead, Salem, Swampscott, Peabody, Lynn, Beverly, Danvers) and involvement with community-based organizations and activities.

Excellent writing, communications, mentoring, and team building skills.Experience in marketing, budget management, and strategic planning. Must be highly organized. Experience with and commitment to working with diverse populations.

Background or knowledge of ballet, modern dance, and cultural dance forms a plus.
