POSITION: HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGER
DEPARTMENT: ADMINISTRATION
REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF FINANCE/CFO
POSITION STATUS: PART-TIME (25 hours per week), Salaried, Exempt

Overview:
Boston Ballet, a professional dance company and the region’s second-largest performing arts organization, is dedicated to the highest standards of dance performance, training, and education. Boston Ballet's Center for Dance Education (CDE) provides high quality dance training to students of all ages and operates the largest ballet school in North America with locations in Boston, Newton, Norwell, and Salem. Through its community outreach and year-round school programs, the CDE serves over 5000 students annually. This position will be responsible for managing all Human Resource functions that include employee recruitment, recordkeeping, transaction processing, orientations, benefit plans, performance appraisals, policies and procedures, and employee development and union Labor relations:150+ full-time and temporary and part-time employees working at four sites, and policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the hiring of temporary and permanent staff by preparing and placing position advertisements and postings, assisting in the development of interview questions and selection criteria, and assisting hiring managers in checking references and making job offers.
  • Coordinate EEO, Affirmative Action and diversity recruitment efforts.
  • Assist mangers in preparing job descriptions that include appropriate job tasks, education and experience requirements, classifying positions for exempt and non exempt status and determining a position’s salary range.
  • Conduct and complete employee salary and benefit surveys.
  • Conduct employee orientations and exit interviews.
  • Process and communicate all information to payroll staff regarding new hires, terminations, status changes, pay changes, benefits, etc. Work with payroll regarding employment verification requests.
  • Oversee CORI check process.
  • Hold Red Cross training sessions for school residential staff and other employees.
  • Establish and maintain employee records in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and good employee recordkeeping practices.
  • Maintain an up to date Staff Policies and Procedures Manual that includes forms for processing various human resource related transactions.
  • Review job responsibilities, qualifications, and reporting structure across organization; and establish and maintain job classification system and compensation bands.
  • Maintain a Performance Appraisal System and assist supervisors in the preparation of performance appraisals.
  • Coach and counsel managers on employee performance issues and with General Manager maintain Labor relations and collective bargaining agreements with Unions.
  • Assist General Manager with negotiation of union agreements.
  • Research, recommend, procure and manage employee benefit plans such as health, dental, life, and disability insurance plans and pension, 403B and Section 125 plans.
  • With the Company Manager, and Managing Director of the CDE Managers to maintain workers compensation insurance, and process all workers compensation claims.
  • Supervise and process unemployment claims.
  • Work with CDE Studio Managers to ensure staff policies and procedures are implemented at all school locations and visit sites as needed.
  • Recommend employee development opportunities and/or hold internal employee training sessions on topics relevant to Boston Ballet community.
  • Assist all departments in the management of Volunteer and Intern Programs.
  • Keep up to date on all human resource laws and regulations and best practices and serve as the Boston Ballet’s representative to the Cultural Institutions Human Resource Consortium.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field and at least five years of comparable human resource management experience. Experience with a cultural, academic, or not for profit organization, and union labor relations experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current federal, state and local laws and regulations regarding employment and personnel actions including those laws relevant to working with minors.
  • Strong financial and analytic skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with managers, union employees and line staff.

Compensation: A salary commensurate with candidate’s education and experience will be offered.
