Joined Boston Ballet in 2005
Daniel Sarabia began his
training in 1992 at the Alejo Carpentier School with Elena Cala and
Magaly Suarez. In 1998 he enrolled at the National Ballet School in
Havana and studied with Ana Julia. As a student, Sarabia performed
the pas de deux from Diana and Aceton and the role of Basilio in
Don Quixote. In 2002 he joined the National Ballet of Cuba as a
soloist, where his repertoire included the Jester in Swan
Lake, Alain in La Fille mal gardée, and the
pas de deux from Coppélia, among other roles.
During his first season with Boston Ballet, Sarabia was seen in
Mikko Nissinen's The Nutcracker (Harlequin, Russian,
Chinese ), Sir Frederick Ashton's La Fille mal gardée
(Cockerel), Val Caniparoli's Lambarena, Rostislav
Zakharov's Gopak, Bronsilava Nijinska's Les Noces
and Marius Petipa's Raymonda, Act III. Sarabia
has received several awards, including a gold medal at the
International Ballet Competition in Cuba in 1997 and a silver medal
at the New York International Ballet Competition in 2005. That same
year, Sarabia performed the role of Basilio as a guest artist with
the Ballet Concierto de Puerto Rico. This past summer he
participated in the International Stars of Cuban Ballet Gala in
Houston, dancing the pas de deux from Flames of Paris with Sara
Webb of Houston Ballet, and Ben Stevenson's Prelude.
